A high-achieving secondary school in Kirkham, Lancashire is hiring a proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant / SEN Learning Support Assistant to support a secondary student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) starting this September 2026.
This position is ideal for experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, Level 2/3 practitioners, psychology graduates, or professionals transitioning from healthcare, care, and youth mentorship backgrounds.
Position Overview:
Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Secondary SEND Support)
Location: Kirkham, Lancashire (PR4 - easily accessible from Blackpool, Preston, Lytham, and the Fylde Coast)
Start Date: September 2026
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only, ~30-32.5 hours/week)
Pay Rate: £85.00 - £100.00+ per day (PAYE, dependent on experience and grade)
Contract Type: Full-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year with permanent contract potential
Key Responsibilities:
Personalised 1:1 Support: Provide tailored academic, social, and emotional guidance to an assigned student across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 lessons.
Curriculum Adaptation: Work alongside subject teachers to differentiate learning tasks, break down complex concepts, and promote active lesson participation.
Regulation & Wellbeing: Support emotional regulation, sensory needs, and focus strategies to maintain a positive, low-anxiety learning setting.
Promote Independence: Build the student's confidence, resilience, and communication skills to encourage self-directed study and positive peer interaction.
EHCP Monitoring: Collaborate with the SENCO, pastoral leads, and external specialists to track progress against targeted EHCP milestones.
Candidate Requirements:
Prior experience supporting children or teenagers with Special Educational Needs (such as ASC/Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language, or MLD).
Warm, calm, and resilient approach with strong de-escalation and active listening abilities.
Confidence supporting core secondary curriculum topics (English, Maths, Science).
Relevant qualification (Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, Degree, or equivalent care/mentoring background) is advantageous.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one prior to September).
