Teaching Cover Supervisor Jobs

Though no formal qualifications are required for the role, Teaching Cover Supervisors should ideally be on a PGCE or other teacher training course, or looking to start one, and be qualified to degree level. Teaching Cover Supervisors must also meet the same vetting standards as fully qualified permanent teachers.

Teaching Cover Supervision is likely to include: 

  • Overseeing set work to be carried out by pupils during the lesson 
  • Managing pupil behaviour in classrooms to ensure the set work is carried out in a
  • Good working environment
  • Responding to immediate emergencies according to the school’s procedures and policies
  • Responding to pupils’ queries about procedures and processes
  • Taking in finished work from pupils and passing it on to the appropriate teacher
  • Reporting on the behaviour of pupils during the lesson, and any issues arising, using the school’s referral procedures
  • Attending staff meeting and parents evenings during extended periods of cover

A Teaching Cover Supervisor should always be courteous, helpful, punctual and professional, as they represent not only themselves, but also the education recruitment agency for which they work.
