Teaching Assistant (PMLD)

Location: Newham, East London
Contract: Temporary, Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Pay: £95-£105 per day PAYE
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday

SANZA Teaching Agency is recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant (PMLD) to join a primary school in Newham.

This full-time, temporary role involves supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs within a specialist provision.

Working alongside teachers, therapists and support staff, you will help pupils access learning, develop communication skills, build independence and work towards their individual goals.

The Role

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils with PMLD and complex needs

• Provide individual and small-group support

• Support pupils' communication using appropriate methods, which may include PECS, communication boards, eye gaze and other AAC systems

• Support sensory learning activities

• Provide personal care where required

• Promote independence, communication and social interaction

• Follow individual programmes developed by teachers and therapists

• Monitor and contribute to records of pupil progress and engagement

• Support pupils' emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour

• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must have:

• Previous relevant experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, SEND or complex needs

• A patient, caring and resilient approach

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• A commitment to inclusive practice

• Confidence and willingness to support pupils with personal care where required

Previous experience or training in any of the following would be advantageous but is not essential:

• PMLD or complex needs

• PECS

• Communication boards

• Eye gaze technology

• AAC systems or other specialist communication methods

• Personal care within an education or care setting

Pay

Pay ranges from £95 to £105 per day PAYE.

The minimum rate of £95 per day applies to candidates who meet the essential experience requirements for the role.

Rates above £95 per day, up to £105 per day, will depend on the candidate's level of relevant PMLD/SEND or complex-needs experience and additional relevant skills or training. This may include experience with AAC or specialist communication approaches and supporting pupils with personal care.
